I’ve owned the matte black version since June of 2012. This review has taken me so long to write because boy do I love this pen, and boy do I hate this pen. No scratchiness, great flow, and it starts up every time. I’m not sure if it’s because Olli is a fellow lefthander and has used this pen so much that the nib has been accustomed to a leftie, or if he had been really lucky. I don’t know what exactly to say about this pen, as it reminds me of ball point and gel pens that have the clicky function to push out and retract the nib (and you know how anti-ballpoint fountain pen people can get ). When the nib is retracted, the trapdoor is closed, and that helps to minimize significantly the evaporation of the ink.Olli’s Vanishing Point fountain pen is silver with rhodium accents, and there are the gold accents available matching other colours as well. Often there’s a “Honeymoon Phase” where there’s excitement for a new pen, and it soon wears off. I have no doubts that my 2.5 year old VP will continue to serve me well for many more years to come. I’m happy to report that the medium nib that Pilot sent with the orange VP is great. I did pick up a black medium unit recently to add yet more stealthiness and it’s in need of some smoothing as it’s a bit scratchy, not sure if this is indicative of the new finish or not. I had a gun metal grey version of the pen (that I sold to fund my Nakaya) that I had carried for a bit with no issues at all. Grr…While I have mentioned many positive pointers about the Vanishing Point, are there actually flaws or not?? The Vanishing Point pens are inked up either by sticking a cartridge onto the nib unit, or by filling ink with its supplied converter.
Maybe I’ll leave one unused for a week, for science of course!I’ve the matt black one too and it’s my daily work carry with a factory medium that’s as smooth as glass.
