The New South Wales rugby league team has represented the Australian state of New South Wales in rugby league football since the sport's beginnings there in 1907. Latest.

Applications close 5pm Thursday 23rd May 2019. True Blues Brett Kimmorley and Trent Hodkinson and recently retired NSW Women’s Origin stars Kylie Hilder and Ruan Sims round out a strong list of coaching appointments for the NSWRL’s pathways teams for the 2020 season.Kimmorley, a former premiership-winning halfback who has coaching experience at Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, Canberra Raiders and Wests Tigers, will take charge of the CABE NSW Under 18s team which lost to Queensland last year for the first time since 2015.Hodkinson, who scored the match-winning try for NSW in Game Two of the 2014 series to help end Queensland’s winning streak, will act as a mentor for the UNE Under 16 Harold Matthews team and CABE NSW Under 16 team to face Pasifika. The appointments for the women’s pathways teams are just as strong with Hilder being appointed assistant coach for the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Country team to face the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s City team in a match that will act as an Origin trial for the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Origin team.Hilder will take on the role as coach for the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Country team at the Women’s National Championships while former NSW captain Sims will be the assistant coach for the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s City team.“The NSWRL pathways teams are extremely important as they provide the next generation of stars for the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues and Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Origin teams,” NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said.“We have enjoyed success in these arenas for the past few years and that’s a result of the time and resources the NSWRL invests into these programs.“I’m excited by the appointments we’ve announced and I’m confident our success will continue in 2020.”Andrew Patmore has retained his role as coach of the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Origin team after guiding the team to a win in his first season as coach in 2019.True Blue Mark O’Meley has also retained his role as coach of the CABE NSW Under 20 Origin team after he steered them to an impressive win over Queensland last year. Other than the NSW team which are looking in sublime form, the Queensland group doesn’t fall short of exception.

State Of origin QLD Team Preview. VIEW ALL PARTNERS While the NRL season and State of Origin series for 2020 remain up in the air due to the coronavirus crisis we look ahead to happier times and a potential first Origin clash.Using a combination of incumbency, returning players and youngsters primed for their debuts we have helped Kevin Walters select his side for the Origin opener, which will hopefully take place later this year. The Knights superstar still needs to work on his consistency at club level, but in his three Origins to date he has looked at ease in the game’s toughest arena.Ponga won last year’s Origin opener for Queensland with two brilliant try assists as the Maroons secured a brave come-from-behind victory. The 23-year-old is now in his fifth season of first grade and the time has come to take his game to greater heights and forge his own Origin legacy. The Cowboys recruit had scored a mammoth eight tries in just five games for Queensland when he made a shock switch to the NFL.Kalyn Ponga should keep him out of the fullback spot, but when he left the game Holmes was arguably the best winger in the world at representative level. The 25-year-old could interchange with Ponga at the back and provide Kevin Walters with attacking threats across the park. The Cowboys skipper has had a horror run with concussion in recent times, so the coronavirus crisis could give him the breathing space to put those issues to bed.The departure of Will Chambers has left a hole in the Maroons’ centre stocks and Morgan’s reliability could again give him the edge in 2020.Now 28, Morgan was tipped as a long-term half for the Maroons, but Cameron Munster and Daly Cherry-Evans look to have those spots locked up for now.The Rabbitohs winger has looked more threatening on the wing for club and country, but the Maroons are low on options and experience at centre. The 29-year-old has scored 11 tries in 13 appearances for the Maroons to date, but has made no secret of his desire to play centre.Valentine Holmes’ return could be the catalyst for giving Gagai the chance to shine in his preferred position on the game’s biggest stage. The Broncos winger was out of sorts last season, but he has been a loyal and reliable servant for the Maroons at Origin time. The 25-year-old has had his own injury struggles over the past two seasons, but when fit and firing he is the perfect man to compliment Holmes and Ponga in the back three.Oates knows how to get his team out of trouble with strong carries out of dummyhalf in their red zone, which has become crucial at Origin level.Munster played fullback in last year’s Origin decider, but will likely return to the halves if everyone is at full fitness in 2020.The Storm star’s strength is his running game, which he should be able to focus on with Daly Cherry-Evans along side him doing the organising. The 25-year-old is widely regarded as one of the best players in the game, but he needs to prove it at the highest level and show more consistency for the Maroons.Last year Cherry-Evans righted a few wrongs in his own Origin legacy by captaining the Maroons in a narrow 2-1 series loss. The 31-year-old came into the series with no footy under his belt due to injury so at least he likely won’t be battling any niggles in 2020.Our choice of No.9 will see Cherry-Evans relinquish the captaincy in 2020, but he is still an integral member of the side. The Broncos hard man made his Queensland debut last year before suffering a horror cut on his leg that interrupted his Origin campaignThe 24-year-old now has 90 games of first grade to his name and will only get better with more time in the Origin arena. The inconsistency of Dylan Napa at Origin level over the last two years gives Ofahengaue the chance to make that starting prop position his own.It is a bold selection but we are tipping one of the greatest Queensland players ever to come out of representative retirement in 2020.This could be Smith’s last year in the NRL and with the season being threatened by the coronavirus crisis, the Storm skipper will be fresh and ready to go.Smith could be 37 by the time the Origin series rolls around, but if he is willing Kevin Walters would be mad not to pick the legendary hooker for his 43rd cap for the Maroons. If it wasn’t for a player called Payne Haas, Josh Papalii would likely be the best prop in the game from last season. As his fellow Queensland forwards struggled in last year’s series, the Canberra enforcer put the team on his back and nearly willed them to victory in the decider.Still only 27 Papalii is in the prime of his career and if he can stay healthy he will be one of the first Maroons picked.By his own high standards Felise Kaufusi was below his best in last year’s Origin series and he will have a point to prove in 2020.The 27-year-old now has over 100 first grade caps to his name and is a tireless and reliable worker for Craig Bellamy at club level.Kaufusi’s defence let him down in last year’s series, but he has the class to bounce back and make amends this season. The Broncos prodigy is tipped alongside club teammate Payne Haas to be one of the best forwards in the game in the near future and he might be there already.Remarkably Fifita is still only 20, but he has the perfect combination of strength, size, power, speed and skill to make him a nightmare for opposition defences. His try in the opening round against the Cowboys showed how he can turn a game on its head with just a shake of his hips, which is a valuable asset in the pressure-cooker of Origin footy. The Cowboys prop was in the headlines for all the wrong reasons last season after a series of eye-gouging incidents.McGuire is on record as saying he was devastated to miss games for his state last year and he has a point to prove when he makes his return. The 30-year-old is one of Kevin Walters’ most experienced players and will be crucial in showing the young forwards the way and lead by example. It is a bit tough to drop Ben Hunt to the bench after he did such a fantastic job at hooker last series, but the bloke that replaces him is pretty handy. The 30-year-old has plenty of utility value on the bench and can fill in at hooker and in the halves at a pinch and even at lock.Hunt has played some of his best footy off the bench for Queensland and Australia and with Michael Morgan in the centres is the right man to fill the No.14 jersey. The Rabbitohs recruit for 2021 has a goal to finish off his Titans career on a high and take his game to the next level; in the Origin arena.Arrow has struggled for consistency in his four Origin appearances to date and will be motivated to emulate his club form for Queensland.Still only 24, Arrow is approaching the prime of his career and will be pushing for his first Origin series victory along with a number of other Queensland stars. One of two bolters on the Maroons bench, Corey Horsburgh has Origin footy written all over him. After a breakout 2019 season, Horsburgh was given a taste of a starting spot in the opening two rounds due to John Bateman’s injury. The 22-year-old has played just 22 games of first grade, but Kevin Walters needs some energy and enthusiasm off the bench and Horsburgh has it in spades. You don’t get made captain of a club like the Broncos at 22 years of age unless you deserve it and Pat Carrigan proved his worth in the opening two rounds of the year.A Junior Maroons skipper, Carrigan has been touted for higher honours for most of his career and 2020 could be a breakout year for the young prop.He is a bolter for sure, but from everything we have seen from Carrigan so far he will handle the step up to Origin footy without a doubt.A NOTE ABOUT RELEVANT ADVERTISING: We collect information about the content (including ads)
