He belonged to a Syed family and was born in a predominantly Syed neighbourhood near the city of Dera Ghazi Khan in Pakistan. Asghar Mawiya, a suspect in Nqavi's assassination, was a member of sectarian-terrorist organization Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistan (SSP) and was killed by his own former allies at a wedding ceremony.
